Healthy spaghetti & salmon recipe

Healthy doesn’t have to mean salads and kale (although I do like salad and kale). Sometimes it’s easy to get bored when eating healthily, but this shouldn’t be the case. Most diets are incredibly restrictive which kind of sets you up for failure before even starting. I know if someone says I can’t have something, I want it even more! People who start restrictive diets are more likely to end up binge-eating. I used to be one of these people and I was bloody miserable. When I stopped dieting I lost weight! I will explain my weight loss story in a separate blog post. Anyway, this recipe is very simple, but so delicious. I hate recipes that contain loads of ingredients and this is great as it’s so easy to make and is very well balanced. Just watch your portion sizes if you’re trying to lose weight – do measure the pasta.


180g wholewheat spaghetti

1/2 jar capers & 2 Tbsp of the brine

2 fillets of salmon

1 handful of basil

Juice of 1/2 lemon

A few pinches of pepper

3 Tbsp olive oil

1 Tsp butter


Bring a large pan of water to boil. Pre-heat grill. Once the grill has heated up place the two fillets of salmon under the grill and cook on medium for around 12 mins.

Now place the spaghetti in the pan and cook for 10 mins.

Drain the spaghetti, leaving a little water in the bottom of the pan (not too much). Now tip the spaghetti back in to the pan. Remove the salmon from the grill and stir in to the spaghetti, breaking them up in to pieces. Next, add the juice of 1/2 lemon, olive oil, butter and pepper. Give it all a good stir and finally add the basil. Serve in bowls and enjoy!
