The Real Food Box Review

The lovely people from The Real Food Box sent me one of their wonderful fresh fruit and veg boxes to try. They deliver a great range of top quality seasonal produce all across Cornwall.  The majority of their produce is sourced from their farm (Trevilley) in Newquay. However, they also source from other conscientious Cornish and British producers. Trevilley farm has supported five generations of family and they are passionate about selling honest, top-quality produce to their customers. This is really evident from the wonderful range of fruit and vegetables I received.  I also have an exclusive discount code to share with you, for details scroll to the bottom of the page!

Since having my daughter, Molly, I’ve become very aware of the quality of the food we eat. I realised that many of our fruit and veg had been sourced from abroad, which isn’t great as the regulations regarding pesticides etc all vary between different countries – as do hygiene regulations. It’s also pretty rubbish for the environment! Buying local and seasonal produce is what we should all be aiming for.  One of the main benefits is how fresh the produce will be, but also how much better it tastes! Plus, it actually has a higher nutritional content – bonus! The Real Food Box is a great choice if you’re looking to try a seasonal fruit/veg box delivery service. I love that you can choose certain products you never want or don’t want for a specific week, especially if you have fussy children who only like certain fruit and veg! It’s also great for reducing waste if you already have lots of one item in your fridge.

How does The Real Food Box delivery service work?

So, for fruit and veg you can choose either mini, small, medium or large. Their prices are surprisingly good value considering the quality of the produce. Mini starts at just £5! If you’re looking for ‘free from’ products you should definitely check out their larder section HERE.  The fruit and vegetable boxes are delivered every week on specific days in relation to your area. However, don’t worry if your’e going to be out as you can designate a safe place for them to leave the box in. Alternatively, you can collect your box from Trevilley farm shop.

For me, the best part of a fruit and veg box is cooking with different products every week. It’s also very exciting to have a peek into your box and see what lovely things await you! On the other hand, If you like to know in advance they usually show a video demonstrating the contents of the box for the following week. I love cooking with vegetables as I mainly eat vegetarian food. When I received the lovely produce from The Real Food Box, I was delighted to see how fresh and vibrant each of the products were. I couldn’t wait to get cooking! When you cook with produce that are good quality and produced by people who are passionate about what they do, it feels like you can be proud of what you’re cooking. Have a look below at the delicious recipe I whipped up using some of the fruit and veg I received from The Real Food Box.

My seasonal summer salad

Ingredients (serves 2):

2 tomatoes

2 large mushrooms

1/3 block of feta cheese

1 large handful of strawberries

400g new potatoes

Spinach leaves

Mixed salad leaves

1 handful fresh basil

1/4 tsp chilli powder

1/2 tsp pesto

Juice of 1/2 lemon

3 glugs of olive oil

Salt & pepper

Firstly, slice the tomatoes into quarters. Then cut the mushrooms into thick slices. Place on an oven tray and drizzle with olive oil and the chilli powder. Pre-heat oven to 180.

Scrub the new potatoes and place in a pan of water. Bring to the boil and cook for 20-25 mins, check occasionally with a knife to see whether they’re done.

Now place the mushrooms and tomatoes into the oven for 20 mins.

Meanwhile, wash the salad leaves and chop the basil into small pieces. Place to one side. Slice the strawberries into thin slices, length-ways.

Next you need to make the dressing. Mix the pesto, lemon juice and olive oil together with a fork or small whisk. Add salt and pepper to season.

When the potatoes are done, drain and stir in a tsp of butter with the basil.

Take the mushrooms and tomatoes out of the oven and place on the plate with all of the other ingredients. Crumble the feta over the top and then finish with a good drizzle of the delicious dressing!
